Gubernatorial Primary Election - October 14, 2023

The Gubernatorial Primary Election is Saturday, October 14, 2023. Qualifying for that election is August 8th through 10th. For races where a runoff is necessary, the Gubernatorial General Election is November 18, 2023. Although the Gubernatorial Election is far off, it will dominate conversations around the Capitol in the coming months. This ballot will include the governor, attorney general, treasurer, insurance commissioner, agriculture and forestry commissioner, secretary of state, and all one hundred forty-four legislators, as well as dozens of judicial and local races.

The following candidates have announced their intention to run for governor: State Senator Sharon Hewitt (R), Attorney General Jeff Landry (R), Hunter Lundy (I), State Representative Richard Nelson (R - Mandeville), and Treasurer John Schroder.

The following candidates have announced their intention to run for attorney general: Marty Maley (R), Solicitor General Liz Murrill (R), and State Representative John Stefanski (R).

The following candidates have announced their intention to run for treasurer: Dustin Granger (D) and State Representative Scott McKnight (R).

Jim Donelon (R) and Tim Temple (R) have announced their intention to run for insurance commissioner.

Speculation on candidates is rampant, so plenty more candidates will enter into these races. We will provide updates on the various races throughout the year.
